Do Eggs Need To Be Refrigerated?

It is known that eggs can last for about 3 to 5 weeks after you purchase them. Of course, it is important to keep them refrigerated. If you want to maximize the shelf life of eggs, we recommend you not to store them in the egg rack of the fridge door, because sometimes the temperature may be too warm in this part of the fridge. They will last longer if you store them in the main part of the fridge.

It is important to keep eggs in the carton in which they have been purchased. Also, you can refrigerate eggs without their shells. This way they will last in the fridge for 2 to 4 days. If you store boiled eggs in the fridge, they will last for up to one week.

If you want to further extend the shelf life of eggs, it is best to freeze them. But, you should never freeze eggs that are in their shells. You should remove the shells of eggs first. Then, pierce the yolks and mix one cup of raw eggs with a ½ teaspoon of salt, if you will use eggs for main dishes.

If you will use them for baking or for desserts, mix a cup of raw eggs with 1 tablespoon of sugar. After that, place the mixed eggs in airtight containers or in heavy-duty freezer bags and put them in the freezer. This way eggs will stay fresh for up to a year. You can also freeze the egg yolks and the egg whites separately and use them later for cooking or baking. You should never freeze hard boiled eggs.

If you store them in the fridge they may last even longer. Although coconut oil will extend the shelf life of eggs, there is one drawback of storing eggs this way. You should know that eggs after being oiled are not useful for cake making any more. Actually, egg whites will lose their foaming properties with the oiling, so they won’t whip up as fresh ones.
