CBD and mental health

CBD is a supplemental product that can be used to treat a number of different medical conditions. Many people prefer to use CBD since it does not contain any THC that could make you high. As CBD interacts with the CB1 and CB2 reactors in the brain, mental health can be drastically changed. With so many Americans experiencing depression and anxiety these days, there is a constant search for something safe that will make a difference. Many prescription medications carry their own set of dangerous side effects. With virtually no side effects being present for CBD and mental health, this is a product worth considering.

Depression

Depression is something that is attributed to a chemical imbalance in the mind or body. Research has determined that people who suffer from depression often have too much cytokine protein in their body. When the body tries to get rid of this additional protein, inflammation occurs. CBD provides the ability to naturally decrease this inflammation and make a change in mental health. It won’t make a person sleepy, confused or more depressed. After just a few doses, many people who are taking CBD for depression see a big change in how they feel.

Anxiety

A number of prescription drugs are on the market, and they are designed to treat anxiety. The problem is, a lot of people find these drugs to be ineffective, or the side effects aren’t worth taking the pills in the first place. When CBD is administered correctly, it can treat social anxiety, obsessive compulsive disorder, panic disorder, PTSD and more. Professionals have not yet been able to determine what kind of chemical reaction takes place in the body that makes CBD so effective for anxiety. The initial suspicion is that CBD can assist with the transmission of serotonin in the body.

Dementia

There seems to be some hope when it comes to using CBD for dementia patients when it relates to mood. Many patients with dementia tend to have issues with angry outbursts or agitation. The use of CBD can change how the endocannabinoid system works. CBD has the ability to target specialized cells in the immune system that are affected by dementia and Alzheimer’s. CBD also has the ability to reduce an inflammatory response in the brain that is often found in dementia patients.

Schizophrenia

Using hemp-based products that contain CBD has the potential to produce symptoms relating to schizophrenia. This is strictly because of the THC content of a product. CBD doesn’t contain THC, and it has potential for calming the dopamine system. Initial tests have been completed on rats, but the results are promising.

Dealing with a mental illness can be a very difficult process. It often takes patients many different tries with many different products in order to find something that helps. In comparison to other prescription products that can be very strong and come with a lot of side effects, CBD is very natural and safe. The most severe reaction your average person will have is a dry mouth after taking a CBD supplement. This is much less of a risk compared to potential side effects of prescription drugs designed to treat mental health conditions. If you are currently on medication for a mental health issue, be sure to check with your doctor before starting a CBD regimen. You want to be sure there isn’t a risk for interaction.
